PTI, JUI-F discuss ways to strengthen opposition
Meeting focuses on how to collectively work inside parliament on important national issues
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) Monday night discussed strengthening the platform of opposition parties.
It was learnt that during the meeting, the PTI was represented by its Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and the National Assembly ex-speaker Asad Qaiser. MNA Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Senator Kamran Murtaza were also present in the meeting that took place at the Parliament Lodges.
Salman Akram Raja apprised the JUIF leaders of the message of the PTI founder Imran Khan concerning the joining of hands against the incumbent government and for the supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law.
On their part, Haideri and Murtaza presented the point of view of their leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and his concerns prior to going for the formation of a grand alliance. The meeting also focused on how to collectively work inside the parliament on important national issues and possible legislation in future.
There have been contacts between the two sides in recent months but significant progress could not be made for a working relationship. However, recently, a two-member committee, consisting of Asad Qaiser and Kamran Murtaza, was formed to pave the way for moving forward.
In January, a PTI delegation had met Fazl and invited him formally to join the opposition alliance, namely the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan.
