Visual artist’s work displayed

LAHORE:A solo exhibition by Usman Aziz Tarar titled "Grey" was held at the Shakir Ali Museum, Lahore. A large number of distinguished members of the art fraternity and art lovers attended the event and expressed their appreciation for the artwork by commending the artist’s skillfulness.

Usman Aziz Tarar is a self-taught contemporary visual artist and painter originating from Lahore. A civil engineer by profession, he is currently based in Saudi Arabia. He has successfully participated in various art exhibitions, shows and events internationally. His work has been collected, published and exhibited in Australia, Canada, France, Italy, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, UAE, UK and USA and has received notable critical acclaim and awards.

Although Usman continues to explore different forms of art expression, his recent exhibition titled “Grey” featured more than 65 works of art made in graphite and charcoal. When asked about the idea behind the naming of this event, Usman said, “I chose to call my exhibition ‘Grey’ with reference to the greyscale work. The variety of several shades of grey is fascinating”. The artworks included portraits, architectural drawings, equine and wildlife sketches. The architectural drawings showcased the famous ‘Old Building’ at Aitchison College as a way for the artist to pay homage to the institution that nurtured the artist in him. His work is an exquisite blend of the continuing dialogue between Eastern and Western artistic traditions. Being a self-taught artist, his style is unorthodox and varies periodically due to the continuous learning and evolution process.
