UET teachers protest 25pc tax on salaries
LAHORE:The Teaching Staff Association (TSA) of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) continued its protest against the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)'s decision to impose a 25pc tax deduction on the salaries of teachers and researchers by organising a demonstration here on Monday.
The UET Teachers gathered at Library Chowk holding placards inscribed with various slogans. Earlier a meeting chaired by TSA President Dr Muhammad Shoaib was held to discuss the ongoing situation. The association decided to call a general body meeting to determine the future course of action. During the meeting, TSA members expressed concerns over the negative impact of this decision on teachers and researchers. Dr Shoaib stated that if the notification was not withdrawn, the protest would continue. TSA General Secretary Dr Tanveer Qasim said this step would have severe financial repercussions for teachers and researchers, harming their economic well-being. He affirmed that the association was committed to protecting the legitimate rights of teachers and will continue its struggle until this unfair tax deduction was revoked.
