Speakers at Swabi moot ask police to maintain peace
SWABI: Speakers at a Peace Conference held here on Tuesday said that the police should play their due role in maintaining peace in the district while protecting human lives and property.
The conference was organised by Swabi Bar Association (SBA) and it was attended by leaders of various political parties, peace lovers, human rights activists, experts, officials of judiciary, police and district administration.
Leaders of Pakistan People’s Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, Qaumi Watan Party, Awami National Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, members of Dispute Resolution Council and various organisations spoke on the occasion.
It was the first time occasion that leaders of political parties, police and administration gathered on one a single platform for peace.Salim Khan Advocate, a former provincial general secretary of Awami National Party said that three people were killed in broad daylight in front of the judicial complex and the accused were set free. Similarly, a man killed his mother inside judicial complex in an alleged honour case and his dispute settlement was accepted by the court.
“We should jointly work for peace in the district. If we failed, our young generation will have a bleak future,” he said.Dr Yaseen Khalil, who taught at the Islamia College, Peshawar said that in the state, everyone gives due respect to the killer which indicates where our society stands and we have what kind of society. Ghulam Haqqani, mayor of Razaar Tehsil said that now the hooligans openly warned the noble people in the district that they will kill you in the Swabi Chowk. “Nobody is safe in our district,” he said.
Masood Jabar, a former deputy general secretary of the Qaumi Watan Party, said that he was astonished that Swabi deputy commissioner did not bother to participate in the conference.
Azhar Khan, district police officer, said he had suspended three policemen against whom complaints were lodged on Monday and Tuesday and the police would continue to play its due role in the provision of security.Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal, district general Noorul Islam, said that the police had failed to play its due role and it was the main reason that peace in the district had remained disturbed.
Mahmoodul Hassan, a JI leader, said that every SHO knew well the criminals active in the limits of his police station.
Arshad Khan Advocate, provincial council member of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, said all stakeholders should put their heads together to achieve peace.Mohammad Sagheer Khan, president of the Swabi Bar Association, said that they were ready to play their due role for peace in the district.
