Food math
In 2024, the country’s population growth rate was around 2.5 per cent and, simultaneously, our agricultural land is in decline. The question is: How will we feed our huge population? The conversion of land from agricultural to non-agricultural uses, including residential and commercial purposes, continues across the country. Everyday hundreds of thousands of acres of agricultural land are being lost.
How do these land developers/builders obtain permission from the relevant authorities to swallow up agricultural land given the increasing imperative to produce more food? The authorities should not grant permission for the conversion of agricultural land and, if done without permission, necessary action must be taken against those unscrupulous developers as per law.
