PNCA photo exhibition explores various shades of Japanese life
Islamabad : A photo exhibition kicked off at Pakistan National Council of the Arts here on Friday, offering a glimpse into diverse facets of Japanese life—from its vibrant culture and people to breathtaking landscapes and cutting-edge technology.
The five-day exhibition, titled ‘Beautiful Japan–Through the Eyes of an Ambassador,’ featured around 40 photographs captured by former Pakistani envoy Farukh Amil during his diplomatic tenure in Japan.
Secretary of the National Heritage and Culture Division Hassan Nasir Jamy and Ambassador of Japan Akamatsu Shuichi jointly inaugurated the event, a collaborative effort between the Embassy of Japan, MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan and PNCA.
The organisers said the exhibition aimed not only to showcase the beauty of Japanese society and culture but also to reinforce the ties between Japan and Pakistan fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japan’s rich heritage and contemporary society among Pakistani audiences.
They said Amil’s talent was even recognised in Japan where he won the prestigious Grand Prix in the Ambassador's Photo Exhibition competition.
Ambassador Akamatsu admired the artist's works, noting that his deep understanding of Japanese society is evident from the photographs as each photograph is a testament to his keen eye and deep affection for Japan. He added that as ambassador, he was delighted to see Japan through the lens of some foreigner who knew the country so well.
“I believe this exhibition powerfully connects our two nations. It allows us to share Japan's beauty and complexity with the people of Pakistan, fostering deeper understanding and appreciation. It reminds us that despite distance, we share the values, respect for traditions, love of beauty, and appreciation for the human experience,” he said.
The ambassador expressed his deep gratitude for PNCA and MAAP for their valuable support in co-organising the exhibition.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until Feb 19, with the gallery being closed on Saturday.
