Despite US President Donald Trump’s attempts to revive protectionism and energy policies steeped in fossil fuel dependency, the global trajectory has decisively turned towards renewable energy, sustainable development, and multipolar cooperation. Trump’s vision, largely anchored in an outdated worldview, fails to address the complexities of an evolving geopolitical and economic landscape. The global order is no longer dictated by unilateral dominance. The expansion of BRICS, strengthened regional alliances, and a surge in transactional leadership reflect a shift away from Western hegemony. Countries once mired in age-old rivalries have begun forging new diplomatic relations, prioritising mutual interests over divisive histories. Trump’s measures, even if briefly impactful, cannot override the momentum of these larger shifts.
In essence, Trump’s farce of reversing global shifts is an exercise in futility. His measures were not designed for enduring impact but rather to pander to a domestic audience. The world has moved on, forging a path defined by collaboration, innovation, and sustainability. It is high time for leaders across the globe to acknowledge and engage constructively with this new reality, discarding the outdated paradigms of division and unilateralism.
