I am writing to express my concern over the recent reports circulating in Karachi about the alleged rise in child kidnappings, particularly the reported warning issued by police urging both parents and schools to exercise increased caution. While it is understandable that the police aim to raise awareness and encourage vigilance, the manner in which the warning was delivered seems to have caused undue anxiety. Rather than instilling confidence in the police’s ability to handle the situation effectively, the approach has unfortunately fuelled fear among citizens.
Warnings like these, when not communicated effectively, can easily cause citizens to feel more vulnerable and lead to widespread anxiety. While it is essential to be cautious, it is also necessary for the authorities to assure the public that they are in control, taking active measures to address the issue, and maintaining law and order. What is needed now is for the police to demonstrate stronger leadership by providing concrete information about the actions they are taking to combat these crimes.
