To reshape urban development: Punjab to establish Punjab Spatial Planning Authority
Final draft of PSPA law has been sent for approval of Punjab cabinet after which Bill will be presented in assembly
LAHORE: The Punjab Government, to reshape urban development across the province, is set to establish the “Punjab Spatial Planning Authority” (PSPA), a new, powerful body designed to centralize and streamline spatial planning, land-use regulation, and urban development management.
This landmark move aims to ensure sustainable, efficient, and climate-resilient development that aligns with both the current needs and future growth of Punjab’s cities. The final draft of the PSPA law has been sent for the approval of the provincial cabinet after which the Bill will be presented in the Punjab Assembly.
According to the copy of the draft bill of “Punjab Spatial Planning Authority” (PSPA), obtained by Jang, PSPA is established with wide-ranging legal powers, functioning as a body corporate with perpetual succession, capable of acquiring and transferring property, entering into contracts, and taking legal action in its name. This makes the authority a cornerstone in Punjab’s efforts to foster well-planned, cohesive urban growth that minimizes haphazard development and promotes a structured approach to land management.
