Crisis prevails

A significant concern has been raised regarding the appointment of bureaucrats as vice-chancellors, a move that the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA) strongly opposes. These appointments are perceived as harmful to both the quality of education and the autonomy of academic institutions. The teaching community is determined to take action and has called for large-scale protests to raise awareness about the crisis. These protests aim to unite various organisations, including the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA), the Karachi Bar Association, and civil society groups, to support the demands of the academic staff. This collective movement underscores the urgent need for reforms and the restoration of respect for the teaching profession in Sindh.

Furthermore, FAPUASA is pushing for national attention to the issues facing Sindh’s universities, requesting that the national leadership address the crisis at a federal level. Legal steps are also being considered to challenge proposed amendments that threaten the autonomy and effectiveness of public universities in the region.
