Complaint lodged against police for false raids
Islamabad:A resident has filed a formal complaint with the Inspector General (IG) of Police Islamabad, accusing the police of conducting unwarranted raids on his home based on false information. The IG has subsequently ordered an inquiry into the matter.
Majid Abbas, the complainant, detailed in his application that on January 14, police officers from the Kirpa Police Station raided his house under the pretext of responding to an emergency helpline (15) call claiming burglars were present at his property.
According to Abbas, the incident began when police personnel demanded that the security guard open the gate. Upon the guard's inquiry regarding the reason for the visit, the officers allegedly climbed over the gate, entered the premises, and injured the guard by striking him with the butt of a pistol. The disturbance drew the attention of neighbours as the police entered the house, asserting they had received information that two burglars were on the property, with one supposedly fleeing and the other still inside.
Abbas denied any such incident occurred and clarified that this was the second time a raid had been conducted at his home based on false information from the same mobile number. He claimed no action had been taken against the individual using this number and accused the police of harassment and tarnishing his and his family’s reputation.
In his complaint, Abbas requested strict departmental and legal action against the owner of the suspicious mobile number as well as the officers involved in the raid. Following the complaint, IG Police Islamabad has directed an investigation to determine the facts of the case and ensure accountability.
