Human trafficking and smuggling has been a nuisance for many developing countries. From the boat tragedy in 2023 to the one that occurred this month, hundreds of Pakistanis have perished trying to cross into Europe. With each tragedy, the government reaffirmed its commitment to bring an end to illegal migration.
However, it is high time it realised that policies alone won't yield the required outcome. Taking legal actions against some agents will bring in others to fulfil the demands of ordinary people to go abroad by hook or by crook. That demand needs to come down.
