Pak explores strategic partnerships at WEF 2025, says adviser to FM

KARACHI: Pakistan is looking to strengthen its international ties and secure strategic partnerships at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 annual meeting, currently underway in Davos, Switzerland, said Khurram Schehzad, adviser to the finance minister, on Tuesday.

He highlighted the event as a unique opportunity for the country to engage with global leaders, organisations and the private sector. In a statement on social media platform X, Schehzad outlined Pakistan’s strategy for the annual gathering, emphasising efforts to bolster collaborations and secure bilateral and multilateral agreements in key sectors such as sustainable investment, climate resilience, infrastructure, technology and renewable energy, all of which are essential for driving long-term economic growth.

The adviser to the FMnoted that the Pakistani delegation, led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, aims to position the country as a resilient, high-potential economy at the WEF. The delegation also seeks to gain support for progressive policy frameworks aimed at addressing global challenges, with a focus on technological advancements, inclusivity and sustainability.

Key priorities for the delegation include securing strategic partnerships, promoting sustainable investments, advancing climate resilience and positioning Pakistan as a hub for regional economic integration, Schehzad added.

In a separate update, Schehzad confirmed that the finance minister departed for Davos on Monday to attend the forum, which is scheduled to run till January 24. In his message, Schehzad reiterated the government’s goal of delivering a clear message to international investors and policymakers: “Pakistan is open for business,” supported by resilience, innovation, stability, and reforms that create a competitive, investor-friendly environment.

WEF 2025, under the theme ‘Collaborating to Stay Ahead of the Era of Smart Technologies’, is being attended by heads of state, government leaders, private sector figures, and representatives from civil society. More than 1,000 high-level delegates from various sectors, including youth leaders, academics and industry representatives, are also participating in the event.
