PESHAWAR: Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mahsud has directed the relevant officials to plant thousands of trees along the six-kilometer-long jogging and cycling track being constructed in Hayatabad as part of the Peshawar Uplift Programme Phase Two.
The initiative will see 2,000 trees and plants planted per kilometre on both sides of the track, transforming it into a green corridor for residents. Designed to promote a healthy lifestyle, the track is the first of its kind, and is situated along the Hayatabad stream. Modern facilities, including open gyms, restrooms, and waiting areas, will be established at every kilometre to ensure user convenience.
Chairing a meeting on the project, Riaz Khan Mahsud instructed the project team to select species of trees and plants that remained green throughout the year and to begin the plantation process immediately.
He said that the initiative reflected a commitment to sustainable urban development that would provide residents with a healthy and eco-friendly environment.“This project is a step towards creating a healthier, greener city and setting a precedent for urban development projects across the region,” said the commissioner.
The project, a hallmark of Peshawar’s modernization efforts, is expected to enhance the city’s environmental appeal and serve as a model for similar green initiatives in the future, he added.
