ISLAMABAD: Former premier and Awaam Pakistan Party (APP) convener Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Friday agreed to work with the Tehreek Tahafuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan for supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law.He told the media along with the other opposition leaders at his residence here that Mehmood Khan Achakzai had already told him that there should be a discussion on the supremacy of the Constitution
“However, at that time, our party was not registered with the Election Commission. We are all united on one point that there should be supremacy of the Constitution. There cannot be political stability in the country without supremacy of the Constitution,” he maintained.
Abbasi said he will also keep this point before his party, as there should be a discussion about the supremacy of the Constitution as the country needs the rule of law. I hope a party with political thinking will join this journey,” he remarked.
Achakzai said it was a bad news that the PTI founding chairman Imran Khan was punished, while the new news was that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had ‘joined’ the Tehreek.
“We will call a meeting of those who believe in the supremacy of Pakistan; contact lawyers, businessmen, judges and generals,” he maintained. Achakzai said, “We completely reject this decision; this is a condemnable decision. We will go to every forum against this decision. Thirty-six parties had gathered in London including the PTI founder. It was decided that the Constitution and law will prevail in Pakistan. Even today, the founder of PTI says ‘leave me, I will not say anything to the government and then he will be thrown out’”. National Assembly ex-speaker Asad Qaiser said there was a need for the rule of law in the country and that they had discussed the supremacy of the Constitution; we have to decide how we have to take this country forward.
