Meeting reviews arrangements for Champions Trophy
KARACHI. A meeting was held here Friday under the chairmanship of Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi to review the arrangements for the Champions Trophy.
The meeting decided that administration will provide special facilities for citizens, including parking and access to the stadium. The facilities include enhanced security arrangements with relevant institutions already planning and implementing security protocols.
It was decided that foolproof security would be provided during the event. The stadium’s surroundings and routes leading to it would be decorated. Special parking arrangements would be made, and a shuttle service would be provided from parking spots to the stadium.
The meeting was attended by officials from the police, Rangers, and other relevant institutions, who gave detailed briefings. Additional Commissioner Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Deputy Commissioner East Abrar Jafar, Deputy Commissioner Malir Salimullah Odho, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed attended the meeting.
The representative of the Pakistan Cricket Board, General Manager National Stadium Arshad Khan, briefed the meeting about the schedule of the matches. The mega event will commence from February 19.
The inaugural match of the Champions Trophy will be played between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi. The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy will kick off on 19 February with host and defending champions Pakistan taking on New Zealand in the curtain-raiser in Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.
The eight-team tournament will consist of 15 matches over 19 days and will take place in Pakistan and Dubai. Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi will be the three venues to host tournament play.
