No one to be allowed to engage in illegal activities, warns Wahab
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Thursday said that all possible measures would be taken to ensure that the city’s activities operate within the framework of the law, and that no one would be allowed to engage in illegal activities.
Wahab said efforts would continue at all levels to implement the relevant municipal rules and regulations to improve the city. He directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Enforcement & Implementation Director Shafiq Shah to take impartial action across all areas, particularly against illegal constructions, without succumbing to any pressure.
The mayor emphasised that no action be taken against the constructions that comply with the maps approved by the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), and where all fees have been duly paid.
He said that on Thursday the KMC halted illegal constructions in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and seized construction materials being used for the work. He said efforts to curb illegal activities would continue across all districts of the city.
He also said that strict instructions have been issued to the KMC’s Department of Enforcement & Implementation to ensure adherence to municipal rules and regulations, and to take immediate action against violators.
He remarked that such measures are vital for improving the city and providing better municipal facilities to the residents, leaving no room for compromise on these matters. He highlighted that encroachments harm the city’s aesthetic appeal and empower the land-grabbing mafia. He urged the public to avoid creating encroachments, construct buildings according to approved plans, and adhere to the authorised number of floors to prevent any adverse consequences. Concluding his remarks, he stressed that the city belongs to everyone, and that it is a collective responsibility to make it beautiful and compliant with rules and regulations.
