Gang of bakery robbers busted
LAHORE:Township police have busted a three-member gang allegedly involved in a series of bakery robberies across the city.
According to SP Saddar Division Dr Ghayour Ahmed Khan, who briefed the media at his office on Monday that the suspects, identified as Afzal, Shaban, and Waqas, are residents of Kasur. One of them, Shaban, is a proclaimed offender wanted in five criminal cases. The gang’s most recent robbery took place last week at a bakery in Faisal Town.
During the heist, they reportedly shot and injured a security guard when he resisted, said the SP. Apart from targeting bakeries, the suspects were also involved in snatching motorcycles from pedestrians at gunpoint.
During initial interrogation, the suspects confessed to committing multiple robberies at various shops, Dr Khan said. The police have traced six criminal cases registered against the suspects in different police stations.
Additionally, the stolen items and illegal weapons have been recovered from their possession. The suspects have been handed over to the investigation wing for further interrogation. Dr Khan assured that effective measures are being taken to curb criminal activities in the Saddar Division. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of citizens by dismantling such criminal gangs,” he added.
