LAHORE: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Athar Waheed has taken a firm stance against traffic wardens seeking transfers through political or personal influence, ordering the suspension of such individuals.

In a directive issued on Monday, the CTO stated that any warden found using external influence for their transfer should consider themselves suspended. He further announced that wardens caught engaging in this practice would be sent to the Manawan Lines as a disciplinary measure. The decision was communicated to traffic officers, senior wardens, traffic wardens, and traffic assistants via a wireless message. The CTO emphasised that professionalism and adherence to the chain of command are critical for maintaining discipline within the traffic police force. The Lahore traffic police have been under scrutiny for inefficiencies and complaints regarding internal practices.

Efficient case management, record-keeping

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Lahore M Naveed addressed readers and moharars (clerks) from all divisions on Monday, emphasising the importance of efficient case management and record-keeping.

During his address, the SSP directed the immediate submission of pending and under-investigation case challans to the courts, ensuring swift legal proceedings. He also ordered the prompt updating of all records on the Police Complaint Management System (POLCOM) under the supervision of division heads. “Moharars must ensure that police station records are updated and accessible at all times, as they can be checked without prior notice,” Naveed stated.

He warned that negligence, inefficiency, or a lack of interest in duty would not be tolerated within the department. Disciplinary action, including departmental accountability, will be taken against those found guilty of delaying or mishandling official tasks.

He further stressed the need for maintaining cleanliness and security arrangements in police stations as a priority. “Professionalism and discipline are non-negotiable, and those who violate these standards will face consequences,” he added.
