PM forms new committee to curb human trafficking
Four-member committee has been formed and Terms of Reference (ToRs) have also been issued
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a new committee on prevention of human trafficking.
A four-member committee has been formed and Terms of Reference (ToRs) have also been issued.
The chairman of the committee will be the head of Anti-Money Laundering Authority, Mushtaq Sukhera. The other three members will include DG Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) Ehsan Sadiq, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Interior Nazar Muhammad Buzdar and a representative of DG Intelligence Bureau (DGIB).
In the previous committee, the FIA director was made its member but in the new committee, he has been removed. In his place, Nazar Mohammad Buzdar, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Interior, who is a Grade 21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, has been included.
According to the ToRs, the committee will audit the steps taken by the Ministry of Interior and FIA to implement the recommendations of Ehsan Sadiq Committee of June 2023. The committee will determine the officers and officials responsible for non-implementation. It will suggest measures for enforcement and legal framework in the institutions concerned. The committee will monitor the implementation of recommendations of the Ehsan Sadiq Committee and Mushtaq Sukhera Committee in December 2024 and suggest a plan of action to move forward. The committee will submit its recommendations to the prime minister within a week. Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Sara Aslam formed the committee through a letter to the Secretary of Cabinet Division. Secretary Establishment Division and Secretary Ministry of Interior were also taken on board.
