PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to move the Peshawar High Court (PHC) against the sentences handed down to workers by the military courts.
Under the leadership of senior lawyer Qazi Muhammad Anwar, president of the Insaf Lawyers Forum, PTI lawyers would file appeals to seek annulment of the sentences of workers arrested and punished after the May 9 incidents. The forum has already completed spadework for preparing appeals, which would be filed soon.
Ali Zaman Advocate claimed in a video message that the trial of civilians in military courts was illegal, as according to him, fabricated and baseless cases were filed against the PTI leaders and workers following the May 9 events. He said that the entire nation was aware of the conspiracy hatched against the PTI. He revealed that several workers were tried in military courts and subsequently sentenced. He said that legal measures would be taken against this illegal punishment. He also said that preparations for appeals against the decisions of military courts were under way and would soon be submitted to the PHC.
He expressed the hope that the judiciary would deliver justice, provide the convicted individuals an opportunity for a fair and transparent trial, and overturn their sentences. All the leaders and workers arrested were being provided free legal assistance by the lawyers, he added.
