LAHORE: Pakistan Broiler Farmers Association (PBFA) Chairman Rana Abdul Sattar on Wednesday said companies supplying one day chicks and poultry feed were behind the hike in meat prices.
Sattar, in a statement, said the profiteers were earning billions of rupees and urged the livestock department to take action against them.
He said the cost of one day chick was only Rs20 but hatcheries were supplying the same for Rs40 to 55 to farmers.
Similarly, he said high feed prices were also a hurdle in supplying poultry meat at cheaper rates.
The actual cost of one bag of poultry feed was Rs1,400-1,500 but it was being sold at Rs 2,300 to 2,500, he claimed.
The PBFA chairman said the association wanted to provide white meat at less rates during Ramzan but the high rates of poultry feed and hatcheries were impediments.
