Govt rejects opposition’s allegations about contractual appointments to universities
The Sindh government has strongly rejected the opposition’s allegations regarding contractual appointments to universities.
The Sindh senior minister and minister for information, transport, and mass transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, stated on Wednesday that the allegations levelled by the MQM-Pakistan and the Jamaat-e-Islami are contrary to the ground realities. He accused the two parties of attempting to politicise the issue to serve their own agendas.
In a statement, Memon said the implementation of contractual appointments is not interference; its purpose is to ensure that proper procedures are followed.
He emphasized that misleading the public and creating unnecessary concern within the academic community should be avoided. He said the government’s measures aimed to bring much-needed reforms to the education sector by ensuring transparency and accountability. The recruitment policy is being introduced to ensure all appointments are made strictly on merit and with impartiality. The Sindh government is committed to maintaining the autonomy of universities, he stressed.
Memon said the Sindh government has initiated improving facilities of transport in Karachi University and providing benefits in the tuition fee. There is need to ensure structural reforms at operational matters.
He said strong measures have been implemented regarding MDCAT, and strict action is being taken against those found responsible for misconduct. The test will be conducted under strict supervision at the IBA Karachi for the Karachi Division and at the IBA Sukkur for the rest of Sindh.
Memon said there would be no change in the syllabus or paper pattern, and only pre-registered candidates would participate. The purpose of this decision is to maintain merit and ensure complete transparency in the admissions to medical and dental colleges of Sindh. He called for the unity of all stakeholders along with the government for the betterment of the students and teachers of Sindh.
2.1 million houses
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has stated that the Sindh government is constructing 2.1 million houses for people affected by floods.
Despite the current economic challenges, this large-scale project is progressing, with many houses already completed and work continuing on the rest, he said while speaking to the media in Karachi.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the Sindh government has launched a new programme this year to empower youth through IT training. In the first phase, 10,000 young individuals from Sindh are being trained in collaboration with the NED University in Karachi and IBA Sukkur. This initiative aims to make participants self-sufficient, create employment opportunities, and position them to contribute significantly to the IT sector, ultimately helping drive the country's progress.
Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized the importance of excelling in the IT sector, saying that it is important for every country to excel in the IT sector, and for young people to start exporting IT software, as Pakistan has a wealth of talent.
He stated that the Sindh government is working hard in all sectors, including health, transport, and irrigation, to provide relief to the people. Development work is progressing rapidly in Karachi. Two mega projects worth billions of rupees are underway in Karachi, which include the Malir Expressway and Link Road.
Memon stated that the Malir Expressway will be opened to the public next year. The citizens of Karachi will greatly benefit from this latest project. He said that work on the Yellow Line BRT and Red Line BRT is progressing rapidly. These projects, worth billions of rupees, have been initiated to provide the best travel facilities to the people. The Sindh government is focused on providing relief to the people in all districts of Sindh, including Karachi.
In response to a question, he said the PTI's enmity is not with any institution of Pakistan or any political party; the PTI's enmity is with Pakistan itself. He stated that the script that has been written is part of a conspiracy to defame Pakistan internationally. The PTI has left no stone unturned in making Pakistan, the country's institutions, and political parties controversial.
Memon said that our institutions are strong and will not be weakened by any conspiracy. The morale of political parties is high, and no one is afraid of PTI members. The PTI's conspiracy is to weaken Pakistan, and they have given billions of rupees to lobbyists, he said, adding that these lobbyists are targeting Pakistan and the state by operating from different countries.
