Incidence of dengue in Pindi shows a little decline
Rawalpindi : The number of dengue fever patients being confirmed positive from Rawalpindi district has started showing comparatively a little decline for the last one week mainly because of a significant fall in temperature however, still well over 100 confirmed patients are being reported from the district per day on average.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Saturday has revealed that within the last one week, as many as 714 new patients belonging to Rawalpindi district have been confirmed positive for dengue fever recording an average of 102 cases per day. It is important that in the previous week, the average number of patients reported from the district per day had crossed the figure of 122.
Encouraging is the fact, however, that the infection has claimed no life from the district in the last one week and the number of infected patients requiring hospitalization has also started showing a significant decline. The dengue fever has so far claimed a total of 11 lives from the district this year.
Data reveals that the number of admitted dengue fever patients from the district at the teaching hospitals in town remained well over 290 in the previous week that has now dropped down to around 220 to 230. On Saturday morning, as many as 220 dengue fever patients belonging to Rawalpindi district were undergoing treatment at the teaching hospitals in town.
In the last 24 hours, 87 individuals have tested positive for the infection from Rawalpindi district that has taken the total number of confirmed dengue fever patients reported this year from the district to 5,652.
Experts say that the incidence of dengue fever has started showing a decline because the temperature in the region has fallen to a significant level and the winter is almost setting in. It is, however, time for individuals to avoid mosquito contact particularly inside homes and offices as the indoor environment remains warmer keeping mosquitoes able to bite and feed on humans.
It is important that the healthcare facilities in town are still receiving a high influx of dengue fever patients daily. Health experts say that the number of dengue fever patients being tested positive from the region would remain high till the end of November or so depending on further fall in mercury. The temperature inside homes and offices is still suitable for breeding and growth of ‘aedes aegypti’, the mosquito that causes dengue fever.
