Absence of wardens causing traffic jams at Banni Chowk

The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) is laying a 24-inch diameter water pipeline at Banni Chowk to replace the old cemented one which has gone out of order as its joints started leaking at different points.

The residents thanked the government for replacing the old water pipeline with new steel seamless one.

The work is being carried out for last one week at the site.

But the disturbing aspect is that the road has been blocked at the work site. The absence of traffic wardens and police creates a lot of problems both for motorists and pedestrians.

The contractor at the site, Sherbaz Khan, told ‘The News’ that the DCO, CTO, Banni Police Station, PTCL and SNGPL were informed about the work and requested presence of the officials at the work site. He said that it would be his utmost effort to finish the work at the site within two days.

The disturbance in traffic flow is creating problems for the residents.

No motorist is ready to wait for a few minutes at Banni Chowk in the scorching heat and traffic remains stuck on the road for long hours.

Shopkeepers, including Sheikh Waqar, Tahir Pervez, Tariq Khan and others, were worried about their business as no customer is willing to come to their shops due to deep trenches at the site.

Banni Chowk touches four roads -- Kohati Bazaar, Circular Road, Saidpur Road and Jamia Masjid Road.

The residents and shopkeepers asked the authorities concerned to depute traffic wardens to streamline the flow of traffic.
