ISLAMABAD: Finally, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) late Monday decided to postpone its protest at D-Chowk fixed for today (October 15) after the government agreed to let medical check-up of the party founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail early Tuesday.
It was conveyed to the PTI, which faced internal division on the option of protest, by the government that medical check-up of the incarcerated party leader will take place Tuesday. PTI political committee considered it and decided to delay the protest for the time being.
PTI Barrister Gohar confirmed the postponement of the protest and said that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi made an official contact on behalf of the government and assured that the doctors will be sent to Adiala Jail Tuesday morning.
In the wake of this development, he explained the peaceful protest has been postponed on the assurance of the interior minister. The political committee held deliberations on the government’s offer for the medical examination of PTI founder chairman by PIMS doctors. However, the Ministry of Interior earlier had declined to let the party team meet Imran in the jail, saying such activity was banned for all in view of the SCO summit.
The decision of protest faced sharp criticism not only from the government but also from within the party ranks and PTI allied also were not prepared to lend support to it because of the SCO summit, taking place in the federal capital.
