Space Week celebrations begin in capital’s educational institutions
Islamabad:The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, on Monday launched the Space Week celebrations in public sector educational institutions here.
The inauguration took place at the Islamabad Model Colleges for Girls in F-6/2, featuring a vibrant celebration that included science stalls showcasing projects from various schools and colleges.
During the event, planning and development minister Ahsan Iqbal delivered an impactful speech emphasising that knowledge is the key to empowering nations. He referenced religious teachings to highlight the importance of acquiring knowledge, particularly in the field of space. Education minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui underscored the significance of youth in the nation, asserting that only through knowledge and hard work could the country improve its current socioeconomic situation.
The event was also attended by parliamentarians Farhat Naz Khan, Wajiha Qamar, Anjum Aqeel and Nuzhat Siddique, and prominent personalities from other fields. Education secretary Moyuddin Wani said Space Week activities would be conducted in public schools and colleges of Islamabad in both urban and rural areas, while Steller scholars’ team will facilitate space-related activities in 20 participating institutions.
He said science stalls will be held without disturbing the morning and evening sessions which would run smoothly, especially in schools. The secretary said knowledge about space would be shared among institutions, and star-gazing night events would be organised.
He said the purpose of World Space Week was to provide unique leverage in space outreach and education and educate people around the world about the benefits that they receive from space
Mr Wani said the event was meant to encourage greater use of space for sustainable economic development, demonstrate public support for space programs, excite young people about science, technology, engineering mathematics and foster international cooperation in space outreach and education.
