‘77pc ongoing water supply projects completed in Faisalabad’

FAISALABAD: Barrister Sultan Bajwa, Provincial Parliamentary Secretary for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering, said Sunday 77pc of the ongoing water supply projects in collaboration with JICA had been completed.
Speaking here, he mentioned that pilot areas like Abdullahpur and Madina Town would begin receiving potable water soon. Upon completion, the project would benefit over 200,000 people, he told.
FDA Director General Muhammad Asif Chaudhry highlighted that major water supply projects under Wasa were near to complete and would provide clean drinking water to citizens.
Wasa Managing Director Amir Aziz stated that the Jhal Khanuana Water Distribution Improvement Project was expected to be completed by February 2025 and would be handed over to Wasa after JICA’s testing.
He added that two distribution centres, one each at Abdullahpur and Madina Town, were in the final stages. Later, Barrister Sultan Bajwa inspected the Surface Water Treatment Plant Phase I at Novelty Bridge. Wasa MD Amir Aziz mentioned that the Surface Water Treatment Plant Phase 1 was a state-of-the-art project, unparalleled in Pakistan while DMD Engineering Saqib Raza announced that Wasa was operating the project using its resources and Phase II would soon be launched with French funding.
ACTION WARNED: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken strict notice of price control magistrates for summoning shopkeepers to their offices instead of conducting field visits.
Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Nadeem Nasir emphasised that the price control magistrates must ensure their presence in markets and only notify authorised price control magistrates must carry out inspections. He warned that strict departmental action would be taken against those magistrates found delegating inspections to subordinate staff.
The DC further instructed that all actions taken by price control magistrates should be geo-tagged and shopkeepers must be informed of violations on-site with action taken under the Price Control Mechanism.
CEREMONY: A ‘Hero Award’ ceremony was organised in connection with the World Teachers’ Day here on Sunday. The event was organised in collaboration with the Global Partnership for Education, UNICEF and the District Education Authority.
The ceremony recognised 19 teachers from each tehsil, including eight primary school teachers, five elementary schoolteachers, five secondary schoolteachers and one senior subject specialist.
The awardees were selected based on students performance, classroom management and discipline.
