SADIQABAD: Eleven dacoits were killed and seven injured while seven abducted officials of the Punjab Police were rescued after a 30-hour-long operation in the katcha area along the River Indus on Monday.
According to SP Gothki, the rescued officials had reached the Machka police station. He also stated that both aerial and ground operations were conducted to rescue the police officials, which continued for 30 hours.
Two gunship helicopters and more than 2,000 police officials from Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Kashmore and Rahim Yar Khan participated in the rescue operation.The aerial operation was halted after rescuing the officials. However, the ground operation was still going on.
The police claimed that a dacoit, Golu Shar, had been killed during shelling by a helicopter but no arrest had been made yet.Moreover, police pickets had been established at all the entry and exit points of the Katcha area.
It merits mentioning here that seven policemen, including Special Squad’s ASI, were abducted on Saturday after 30 or so suspected robbers stormed a police check post near the Machka area of Sadiqabad.The abducted personnel belonging to the Punjab Police’s Special Squad were deployed on a special task.
