On the direction of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who is also the chairman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), the KWSC is making special arrangements in connection with the Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations.
This was stated by KWSC Chief Operating Officer (COO) Engineer Asadullah Khan on Monday. He was holding a meeting with a delegation headed by the president of the Ahle Sunnat Coordination Council of Pakistan, Syed Masroor Hashmi.
He assured the delegation that effective measures were being taken to ensure water supply and sewerage services throughout the city, particularly along the routes of mosques, majalis and processions.
He said the issue of sewage overflow was being addressed by placing ring slabs and covers on all open manholes. The delegation informed KWSC officials about various water supply and sewerage problems along the procession routes, including those affecting mosques, and emphasised that all issues should be resolved on a priority basis.
The KWSC COO assured the delegation that all their grievances would be addressed and instructed the officers concerned to resolve all the issues on a priority basis. He also directed that water tankers be provided along the routes of mosques and processions on Eid Milad-un-Nabi as providing better facilities to citizens and worshippers was one of the top priorities of the water corporation.
A day earlier on Sunday, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Managing Director Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah also held a meeting to finalise the waste management board’s arrangements for the 12th Rabiul Awwal processions.
