Officials asked to expedite work on sports facilities

PESHAWAR: Syed Fakhar Jehan, Adviser to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sports and Youth Affairs, has directed relevant authorities to expedite the construction of sports grounds and related facilities in Mardan district.

The directives were issued during a meeting at the Civil Secretariat, where progress on various sports development projects in Mardan was reviewed.The meeting was attended by Provincial Food Minister Zahir Shah Toru, Director General Sports Abdul Nasir, Director Works Ahmad Zeb, Director Development Munir Abbas, and the chief planning officer of the Sports Department.

The Sports Department provided a detailed briefing on both completed and ongoing projects. It was reported that a sports complex in Rustam tehsil, Mardan, and a women’s gymnasium along with a multi-purpose facilities hall have been completed. Additionally, a project to upgrade sports complexes under the provincial Annual Development Programme (ADP) is nearing completion in Mardan.

Under a provincial initiative to establish sports grounds at the tehsil level, one scheme in Mardan is complete, while two squash courts have been finished and another is expected to be completed soon. Furthermore, 17 schemes have been completed under the provincial project to establish sports grounds at the union council level in Mardan.

During the meeting, the adviser stressed the need to accelerate the pace of construction to ensure the timely completion of these projects, allowing the public to benefit from them sooner. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing facilities for healthy activities and enhancing infrastructure for the youth of the province.
