BISP beneficiaries start receiving financial aid through bank
JHANG: The Benazir Income Support Programme beneficiary women have started receiving their payments from the payment agents authourised by the Punjab government-run bank here.
Earlier, the BISP beneficiaries were receiving their payments through arrangements made by a private commercial bank. Sources revealed that after receiving continuous complaints from the beneficiary women and in light of feedback from the local BISP offices regarding slow payments and other difficulties created by the payment agents of the bank, the BISP management had replaced the partner bank for further payments.
BISP District Deputy Director Maqsood Bhatti said that the new partner Bank of Punjab had started disbursing payments to the beneficiaries by appointing 242 payment agents in the district. He stated that the beneficiary women were receiving payments at eight payment sites through the agents of the bank under the supervision of the BISP teams. He said that the administration of the BOP had already been requested to ensure that bad reputation payment agents should not be allowed to work under the guise of new names to avoid troubles to the beneficiaries.
Under the collaboration, the BOP would extend its services to serve the BISP beneficiaries not only through its authourised payment agents but also through ATMs and branch networks across the district, Bhatti said.
The BISP officer said that registration of new deserving families was also in progress in all tehsil offices and in case of any compliant about favouritism and misbehaving, the BISP dealing staff would face stern action.
