Training arranged for district attorneys and rights professionals
HRs education termed critical to just society
PESHAWAR: Speakers at a training workshop here on Tuesday said human rights education had critical importance in the development of a just, tolerant and equitable society.
The Directorate General of Law and Human Rights of Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) conducted the two-day training workshop for district attorneys and human rights professionals.
Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Department Aftab Alam Afridi inaugurated the training.The organisers said the workshop was designed and dedicated to promoting international humanitarian law and legal education.
The primary objective was to enhance and develop the understanding and application of humanitarian law among district attorneys, human rights professionals, educators and policymakers.
It also aimed to foster collaboration between governmental and non-governmental organizations in promoting and protecting human rights across the province. In his opening remarks, Aftab Alam emphasized the critical importance of human rights education in the development of a just, tolerant and equitable society.
“This workshop represents a significant step forward in the KP government’s commitment to uphold and advance fundamental human rights in the province. By equipping legal and HR professionals with the necessary tools, knowledge and skills for the promotion of human rights, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is trying to ensure a brighter and just future for all,” said the minister.
Ghulam Ali, Director General of Law & Human Rights, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said that the principles of humanitarian law were not just legal mandates; they were reflections of our shared humanity.
He said these reminded us of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve human dignity, even in the most trying circumstances.The official elaborated that as district attorneys and human rights professionals, participants had the power to make a significant impact in this realm. Your work can save lives, bring perpetrators to justice, and provide solace to those who have suffered.
The ICRC’s representative, Edithe Joseph highlighted the importance of continued education and training in the field of humanitarian law.“We are honoured to support this initiative, which aligns perfectly with our mission to promote humanitarian principles and strengthen legal frameworks that protect human values and dignity,” stated the ICRC representative.
