Two suspects involved in killing Rangers official shot dead
Karachi police chief Javed Alam Odho disclosed at a press conference held at the Karachi Police Office (KPO) on Friday afternoon that two most wanted criminals involved in a number of street crime incidents and murders, including those of law enforcers, had been killed.
He said Korangi district police gunned down two suspects, Manthar Soomer and Ali Asghar, in a fierce encounter and arrested another suspect Jan Muhammad, son of Mithu, on EBM Causeway in the wee hours of Friday.
Two accomplices of the suspects fled towards the embankment area of the Malir river, after which Korangi Industrial Area police started a grand search operation along with additional police personnel in the area of embankment and Mehran Town.
Additional IG Odho said important revelations had been made by Jan Muhammad, and the police had seized three pistols, mobile phones, cash and a stolen motorcycle from the dead and arrested suspects.
This criminal group was very active and wanted by the police for crimes in various parts of the city, including Korangi Causeway, Malir river, Shah Faisal Colony bridge, Qayyumabad, Malir Expressway, Korangi Crossing, Shah Latif Town, National Highway, Mochko, Mai Kolachi Road, where they looted dozens of citizens.
Odho said the police also obtained the criminal record of the dead suspects, who had been booked in a number of cases of serious nature such as attempted murder, robbery and rape during house robbery, as well as weapons, street crime and firing on security agencies, police and Rangers.
Moreover, Jan Muhammad disclosed that he along with his associates had fired gunshots on Rangers personnel in Malir’s Shah Latif area and also at police personnel on the Malir Expressway. The suspect also admitted that he along with the killed suspects had shot and injured ASI Haroon in Korangi Industrial Area for putting up resistance to a mugging bid and also took away with them his licensed pistol.
The suspects were also wanted by the Shah Latif police station in the murder case of a Rangers official, who was shot dead on October 5, 2022. Later, Additional IG Odho chaired a meeting crimes and their prevention at the DIG West Office.
Officials said the meeting was attended by the DIG West, DIG Investigation, SSP West, SSP Central and other senior officers. Odho sought information from the police officers regarding the situation related to crime and its prevention and issued instructions to formulate a comprehensive strategy. During the meeting, police action against absconding and proclaimed offenders was also discussed. The city police chief ordered making the police strategy more concrete.
