Conference: Call to discover and preserve archaeological sites
MANSEHRA: Speakers at a conference held here on Wednesday stressed the archaeologists and academia to discover and preserve British era archaeological sites and heritage in the country.
“The British period in the subcontinent has left a deep impact on our architecture and cultural values and we should explore and preserve it in its true essence,” Vice-Chancellor of Hazara University Dr Mohsan Nawaz told a conference on “British Era Archeology and Heritage” held at varsity’s auditorium.
The archaeologists from different universities showed up at the conference and presented their documents. Dr Mohsan said that the British era had left a deep impact on the subcontinent’s culture and architecture established in different cities.
“It is our joint responsibility as archaeologists and academics to discover and preserve the rich culture of the British ear in our country,” he remarked.Director of Archaeology and Museums Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Abdul Samad told the conference that the British colonial architecture had left visible traces in the entire subcontinent, especially Pakistan.
He also briefed the participants about measures which were being taken by his department for archaeological excavations and findings in different parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.Dr Ruth Young from the United Kingdom said that the British Council was working on major projects to discover and preserve archaeological landmarks in Pakistan aimed at protecting archaeological sites and exposing historical heritage around the world to provide information on ancient civilizations of the world.
