IGP wants facilities at police hospitals, dispensaries upgraded

Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Thursday presided over a review meeting and a video link conference at Central Police Office Karachi regarding improvement and upgradation of facilities in police hospitals and dispensaries.

Officials said the meeting was attended by the additional IG welfare, DIGs of headquarters, Karachi traffic, finance, admin Karachi, training, MS police Hospital Karachi and other police officers.

The Hyderabad DIG, Sukkur SSP and MS Police Hospital Karachi briefed the participants separately on the current status of medical facilities and medicines in the hospitals, saying that 600 patients in the Police Hospital Karachi and more than 250 patients in the Hyderabad Police Hospital were being deprived of quality medical facilities every day.

The IGP ordered ensuring the services of specialist and experienced doctors, facilities such as diagnosis and treatment of diseases and quality medicines to improve the facilities for OPDs in police hospitals. He said that soon through the health insurance facility, the police personnel and their families will be provided indoor treatment facility of up to Rs1 million in the best hospitals.

In addition, police hospitals and dispensaries must not only be upgraded but also equipped with better facilities for first aid, medical consultation and quality medicines.

He directed that a regular survey of police personnel suffering from diseases like high blood pressure and sugar should be conducted and such patients should be provided medicines for at least three months, while a regular feedback mechanism should also be set up regarding the facilities provided to patients coming to police hospitals and dispensaries so that the facilities available could be improved keeping in mind the feedback and guidance.
