Pakistan resents law to punish those not showing Kashmir as part of India
Condemns Indian violations of UNSC resolutions on Kashmir
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday expressed serious concern to the United Nations secretary general and its president on Indian violations of the UNSC’s resolutions on Kashmir and its efforts to introduce a controversial Geo-spatial Information Regulation Bill in the Indian parliament.
Pakistan’s concern has been conveyed to the secretary general and president of the UN Security Council through letters by its Permanent Representative in New York, said a statement of the Foreign Office spokesman here.
In violation of the UNSC resolutions, the official map of India has been depicting the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India, which is factually incorrect and legally untenable, it said.
Through the passage of this bill, the Indian government would penalise the individuals and organisations who depict Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory as per the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, it said.
The letter also called upon the United Nations to uphold the UNSC resolutions and urged India to stop such acts which were in violation of international laws.
Pakistan has urged the international community and the United Nations to fulfill their commitment with the people of Jammu and Kashmir by holding an independent and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices, it said.
