‘Traffic management being improved across province’

LAHORE: On the directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab Police are actively working to improve traffic management across the province, including Lahore.

Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar said that traffic police offices in all districts of the province were providing driving licences and other facilities to citizens. Punjab Police spokesperson released the one-day performance report of Punjab Traffic Police. According to details, 1,340 citizens were issued driving licences across the province, including Lahore, in the past day.

Legal action was taken against 13 vehicles emitting excessive smoke, with two vehicles impounded for causing pollution. Over traffic violations, 4,150 vehicles were fined, and fines amounting to Rs2.5 million were deposited in the national treasury.

The spokesman said that since the special campaign began on February 26, over 1.43 million citizens have been issued driving licences. Action was taken against more than 24,600 vehicles causing pollution, with 6,688 vehicles impounded. For traffic violations, over 3.248 million vehicles were fined, and a total of Rs1.72 billion had been deposited in the national treasury.

IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar said that the traffic police were continuously working to protect citizens on all highways across the province, including Lahore, ensuring smooth traffic flow along with providing services to the citizens.

Over Rs1m health funds for cops

Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar Friday chaired a meeting of Medical Financial Assistance Committee and released over Rs1million for the health of cops and their families.

From the released funds Rs 250,000 were given to Junior Clerk Muhammad Waheed Asghar of the IAB branch, Rs 250,000 for the wife of Senior Traffic Warden Rashid Rasheed from Faisalabad, Rs 250,000 for medical treatment of Senior Traffic Warden Mustaqeem Khan from Rawalpindi Police, Rs 200,000 for retired Head Constable Khurshid Ahmed Awan from Lahore Police for open-heart surgery, and Rs 100.000 for Constable Sajid Ali Khan from Lahore Police for kidney disease treatment.
