A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and his son have been taken into custody for their alleged involvement in robbing a paan shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Earlier, a video had emerged showing persons in plain clothes robbing a paan stall in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) legal DSP's son was among those seen in the video.

Following the video, police detained the DSP and his son for investigations. Police also traced the mobile vehicle used by the suspects and seized it. Police said the police mobile had been allotted two years ago to DSP Zafar Javed. Sources revealed that it was not only the DSP's son but the DSP himself was also involved in the robbery at the paan shop.

The complainant of the case has also identified the DSP, said the police, adding that two individuals who robbed the shop were private employees of the DSP. The suspects, Rafi and Bilal, were close associates of DSP Javed, police said. Both of them were wearing masks while committing the crime and raids were being conducted to arrest them, said the investigation police. The robbery case was registered at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station by the paan stall owner, Shahzaib Mughal.
