HYDERABAD: Unidentified men on a motorbike opened fire at journalist Nasrullah Gadani at around 11am on Tuesday as he was riding his motorbike from his village Qabool Khan Gadani to Mirpur Mathelo town, according to District Ghotki police.
Mirpur Mathelo SHO Sadruddin Luk reached the crime scene and took the injured to the Civil Hospital Mirpur Mathelo, from where the victim was taken to Shaikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.
Police said the journalist had suffered three bullets. They said he had undergone surgery, and was now on a ventilator in the ICU. They also said the incident is being investigated from every angle, and the perpetrators would be arrested soon.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan censured the attack and sought details of the incident from the District Ghotki police chief. A statement quoted the minister as saying that the perpetrators should be brought to justice as soon as possible.
The minister also stressed the need for finding and exposing the factors and elements at work behind the scenes by conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) President Fahim Siddiqui, General Secretary Liaquat Rana and executive committee members censured the attack on the life of the journalist.
The KUJ Executive Committee demanded of the Sindh police chief and other relevant officials to ensure the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. They said the KUJ is praying for the earliest recovery of the injured journalist.
