The Pakistan Bazaar police on Tuesday registered a case against unidentified suspects in connection with the rape of a seven-year-old girl in Orangi Town a day earlier.
The girl was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed that she had been subjected to rape. Police registered a first information report (No. 226/24) on the complaint of the girl’s grandfather.
Police said that besides conducting the girl’s medical examination, DNA samples have also been collected. The case has been filed under the section of sexual assault, they added. According to the FIR, the minor girl had left her home in Sector 16, Ittehad Colony, at around 4pm to play; she returned home crying and in an injured condition an hour later.
The girl was given medical assistance at the National Institute of Child Health, and her condition is now stable, said the police, adding that no CCTV cameras are installed around the girl’s house, so the nearby footage is being checked.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan has expressed extreme anger over the horrific incident. He ordered the District West police chief to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. He also sought detailed reports on the progress made so far.
