BATTAGRAM: People have criticised insanitary conditions at Battagram Bazaar, and demanded accountability and swift action from the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) authorities.
The once bustling centre of commerce and social interaction is now shrouded in dust and garbage, much to the dismay of the local population. They attribute the deplorable state to the apparent neglect of the TMA Battagram.
Complaints abound regarding the lack of street sweeping and the unchecked accumulation of waste, posing not only daily inconveniences but also escalating health concerns such as respiratory issues. Concerned shopkeepers have lamented the adverse impact on businesses and public health.
The contamination of the Nandhiyar stream, flowing through the heart of the bazaar, exacerbates the problem, as it has become a dumping ground for garbage. The residents decry the disregard for environmental preservation and health safety. Discussing the issue, former local government election candidate Saeed Malkal has raised questions regarding the allocation and utilisation of beautification funds, suspecting possible mismanagement or embezzlement. He demanded transparency and accountability, urging a thorough investigation into fund disbursement. Area’s religious scholar Allama Atta Muhammad Deshani also raised the community’s concerns, urging immediate action from the local member of provincial assembly (MPA) to rectify the deteriorating conditions.
