Islamabad:Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister's coordinator on climate change & environmental coordination, emphasized Pakistan's unwavering commitment to gender inclusivity in national mainstream and climate action. Speaking at the Pakistan Gender Climate Award 2024, hosted by the Civil Society Coalition for Climate Change in collaboration with various international partners, including the Embassy of France and the European Union delegation to Pakistan, Alam highlighted the prioritization of gender in the national climate policy and adaptation plans.

Alam underscored the critical nexus between gender and climate, recognizing women's indispensable role in driving climate action forward despite facing unique challenges and barriers. She extended heartfelt appreciation to foreign governments for their invaluable support and partnership in Pakistan's journey towards a more sustainable and resilient future.

The event also honoured women achievers in climate action, acknowledging their significant contributions. Additionally, Alam remembered Shabbir, a climate beat reporter who passed away while raising awareness on climate change. She announced her ministry's initiative to establish a climate award attributed to his name, further emphasizing the importance of media involvement in addressing climate issues. The Pakistan Gender Climate Awards 2024 serves as a testament to Pakistan's dedication to fostering gender inclusivity and recognizing the pivotal role of women in combating climate change on both national and global scales.
