LAHORE: Ajoka's 5- day theatre festival came to an inspiring conclusion with a stirring performance of "Dara" and a joyful closing ceremony.
Ajoka members and supporters released 40 colourful balloons and sparkling confetti to mark the 40th anniversary of the group. The event ended with the crowds dancing Bhangra snd dhamal on the beat of dhol and nagara. The closing performance was attended by the Lahore Arts Council Chairperson Razi Ahmad and the newly-appointed Executive Director Ms Saira Rashid. Both expressed their appreciations of Ajoka's contribution to socially meaningful theatre and the successes and very well attended theatre festival.
A jam-packed Alhamra Hall 2 thoroughly enjoyed the performance of "Dara" and loudly cheered throughout the play. The festival titled "ajoka@40 Theatre Festival was held from 2-6 May, in collaboration with Lahore Arts Council and was part of year-long events being held to celebrate the milestone for Pakistan theatre. The festival was dedicated to Ajoka founder Madeeha Gauhar who led the group from its inception in 1984 until she passed away in 2018.
