The Karachi commissioner, Syed Hasan Naqvi, has directed all the deputy commissioners of the city to submit a survey report of all hazardous buildings within one week and take measures to get them vacated.
The city administration has decided to evacuate the dangerous buildings in the city. In this regard, the commissioner held a meeting on Monday that was attended by an assistant commissioner of a District South sub-division, Junaid Alam, officials from the Evacuee Property Trust Board, director of property tax, and officers from the Karachi Development Authority and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) land departments.
All the deputy commissioners joined the meeting through video link.
The officials reviewed the dangerous buildings of the Evacuee Property Trust Board. Alam briefed the meeting on the dangerous buildings in District South. It was decided that all the deputy commissioners would identify dangerous buildings in their districts with the help of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) in a week and present a report on their condition.
The commissioner said the deputy commissioners should work with the SBCA to take immediate action to protect people's lives from the risks posed by dangerous buildings. Naqvi also asked the KMC to review its historic buildings and old markets and take necessary measures in this regard.
