PTI to stage demos against rigging
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to hold protest demonstrations across the country on April 26, including Karachi and the rest of Sindh, against alleged rigging in general and by-elections, as well as to demand the release of the party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan.
Haleem Adil Sheikh, PTI’s Sindh president, said on Tuesday that the protests would be organised constituency-wise in urban areas and tehsil-wise in rural areas of the province this coming Friday.
Sheikh claimed that the mandate the public gave to PTI in the general election held on February 8, 2024, and in the by-elections held on April 21 was usurped through rigging. He said Friday’s protests would demand action against the alleged rigging and a declaration of the results in accordance with Form 45. He called for the restoration of the rule of constitution and law in the country and the release of Khan from jail. Sheikh urged all party organisations, including its student wing, the Insaf Students Federation, to join the protests in large numbers.
