KWSC CEO calls for effective governance in addressing global water challenges

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Karachi Water Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed represented Pakistan at the Global Water Summit in London where 300 global water leaders gathered. 

The CEO discussed ongoing institutional reforms in the Karachi Water Corporation at length and how it is modernizing its processes. He highlighted the importance of effective governance in addressing global water challenges.

According to a press statement from the KWSC, its CEO was selected by Global Water Intelligence as the Steering Committee Member from South Asia, which is the first time in the history of Pakistan, further amplifying his influence and recognition of the Sindh government’s efforts at the global stage.

The conference theme, ‘Security for a Changing Planet’ aligned with the pressing need to address water security issues in the face of climate change. Ahmed participated and evaluated roadmaps of the world utilities on sustainable development goals (SDGs) till 2030.

His contribution was also mentioned at the prestigious Global Water Awards ceremony held on 17th April, which was witnessed by more than 850 delegates from around the globe.

The Global Water Summit provides a platform for peer-to-peer learning and student-mentor relationships amongst utilities. It gives ample opportunity to bring digital solutions to many problems faced by water utilities besides bringing in investment opportunities.

Many leading utilities expressed willingness to work closely with the KWSC on areas like non-revenue reduction plans, customer relationship management, water quality improvement, water filtration with new media, sludge treatment and reuse at wastewater treatment plants. The KWSC presented its pledge under 300 leaders of the world to provide access to 3 million more people in Karachi to safe drinking water and sewerage services by 2030, which shall be a great achievement on its part.

The CEO said that KWSC’s close coordination with the Global Water Intelligence Group is the acknowledgment of its achievements and the performance recognition of the leadership of the KWSC in advancing water sustainability.

He said that this recognition also brings a singular honour of any Pakistani utility whose leadership role was duly acknowledged at the global dialogue on water management and security

He evaluated SDG 2030 roadmaps for all utilities worldwide alongside seven other members.
