The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday directed provincial and federal law officers and police to submit progress reports with regard to whereabouts of missing persons.
A petitioner, Imtiaz Hussain Shahani, submitted that his nephew Abdul Rehman had been missing for two months from the Gulshan-e-Maymar area. He submitted that the SHO concerned refused to register an FIR of the disappearance and requested the high court to direct the police to register an FIR and direct them to produce him before court.
The high court observed that since the liberty of a person was involved in the case, the police and other law enforcement agencies should take up the matter seriously. The bench directed the Gulshan-e-Maymar SHO and other official respondents to file comments on the petition by April 3.
