A fire broke out on Sunday in the old passport office located behind the Passport Office in Saddar, as a result of which all the old record stored in the record room was destroyed.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the fire.
Upon receiving the information, the fire brigade sent six fire tenders and one snorkel to the site. Besides the fire brigade vehicles, rescuers from different welfare organisations and police also arrived at the scene.
After hours-long struggle, the fire brigade managed to control the fire.
According to fire brigade spokesperson, the building where the fire erupted housed the record room of the passport office, where all the old records were kept. Due to the fire, all the documents in the record room and an old car parked nearby were burnt. The roof of the building was also damaged due to the fire.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Police suspect that drug addicts could be responsible for it as a few days ago, some drug addicts were caught by the police in the vicinity. Further investigations are under way.
