‘Suthra Punjab’ campaign speeds up

LAHORE : Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has intensified its efforts under the ‘Suthra Punjab’ drive.

LWMC Chief Executive Officer Babar Sahib Din on Saturday conducted emergency visits across the city to supervise cleaning operations. During the Nishtar Town visit, Babar Sahib Din personally inspected the sanitation arrangements and commended the efforts that led to over 25 open plots in the area being transformed into zero-waste zones.

Emphasising the importance of cleanliness in both urban and rural areas, Babar directed special attention towards rural union councils as well. He reviewed the cleaning operations at various locations, including Azam Chowk, Badshah Chowk, Ashiana Road, and Ring Road Interchange.

Under his direction, over 50 workers were engaged in scraping work at Ashiana Interchange and Kamahan Ashiana Road. Furthermore, he issued directives to ensure complete zero-waste in areas such as Usman Park, Sufiabad, Nishtar Colony and Youhanabad.

CEO Babar Sahib Din also emphasised the importance of making ring road service lanes and entry-exit points dust-free. He reiterated the LWMC's commitment to fully implementing Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's vision of ‘Suthra Punjab’. He highlighted that LWMC officers and staff are working tirelessly in all three shifts to achieve this goal. He urged citizens to support LWMC teams by disposing of garbage in designated bins. Citizens were encouraged to report sanitation-related complaints and suggestions through the LWMC helpline 1139 or via social media channels. Babar assured that all efforts are being made to ensure the successful execution of the ‘Suthra Punjab’ campaign in provincial capital.

Wasa MD orders action against defaulting societies

MD Wasa Ghafran Ahmed said that all the directors should take unconditional action against the defaulters and tighten the clamp around all the defaulting housing societies. He issued these directions while chairing an important meeting at Wasa Head Office on Saturday.

All the directors of operation and revenue wings participated in the meeting in which detailed review of revenue, desalination operation, energy, fuel and medical usage was done.

MD Wasa Ghafran Ahmed said that all the directors should ensure the saving of electricity and kept strict monitoring in their towns. In this regard, special saving in the use of fuel and energy was emphasised. In addition, MD Wasa Ghafran Ahmed said that the sewage desalination operation should be strictly implemented.

The public representatives of the concerned constituencies should be involved in monitoring the desalination schedule, he said adding all the directors were directly responsible for the operation and revenue.

There was a need to take measures on war footing in revenue collection.

A committee was formed to check all the machinery and official vehicles. MD Wasa instructed to speed up the challan on water wastage and include the challan of water wastage by consumers in their bills.

Meanwhile, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has announced new timing for tube wells during Ramazan.

Wasa MD Ghafran Ahmed issued a notification in this regard on Saturday, which stated that in Ramazan the first spell of water supply will start from 3:00am till 5:15am while the second period will be from 8:00am to 10:00am.

The third period will be from 12:00pm to 2:00pm while the last period will be from 5:00pm to 8:45pm.

Wasa MD Ghafran Ahmed has given strict instructions to all the Directors to ensure un-interrupted supply of water and ensure the tubewell timings. He also appealed to the public to save water in their homes during tube well timing.
